
Joey Allen is an Emmy-nominated executive producer and showrunner with over two decades of experience across broadcast, cable, and digital non-fiction. For the past six years he has been the Executive Producer and Showrunner of a number of high-end historical recreation docu-series for HISTORY, including the flagship The Food That Built America and The Mega Brands That Built America, along with the event series The Titans That Built America—a Realscreen Award winner—and Ancient Empires.
Running throughout his career is a deep, continuing specialty in food competition and studio-audience game show formats. Joey was executive producer and showrunner of ABC’s The Great American Baking Show, adapted from the international hit The Great British Bake Off, and has produced formats including BYU-TV’s Dinner Takes All, the branded Topgolf Chef Showdown, and Endeavor Audio’s Factorious podcast. His broader credits span large-scale international productions, vérité follow-docs, social experiments, travel and lifestyle programming, and biographical, natural history, and science documentaries for networks including Discovery Channel, National Geographic, A&E, PBS, Bravo and CBS.
Beyond his hands-on producing, Joey brings more than a decade of senior management experience inside award-winning non-fiction production companies. From 2012 to 2016 he was Senior Vice President of Love Productions USA, opening and running the New York office of the British company and overseeing all U.S. development and production. Earlier, as Vice President of Production and Development at Pangolin Pictures—founded by National Geographic alumni—he showran and produced more than fifty hours of programming. He began his career at National Geographic in Washington, DC.
